Hand-stitched tactile textile
The Touchstone came from thinking about the familiar idea of a worry stone and how I could translate that into textile. I wanted to make something small and discreet that could sit comfortably in the hand.
One side has a raised continuous embroidered path to follow with a finger. The other has a patch of seed stitch, giving a slightly bumpy texture under the thumb or fingertips.
Made from natural-coloured linen, the Touchstone is lightly padded so it stays soft and flexible in the hand.
It is available with light taupe, antique pink or muted green embroidery. I associate light taupe with grounding, muted green with reassurance, and antique pink with warmth and care. There is no right choice — you may simply be drawn to one more than another.
At approximately 12 × 16 cm, it is small enough to keep nearby or take with you.
It can be held, traced, pressed or simply explored with the hands.
