About Doux Cœur

Hello,

I’m Mélanie, founder and maker of Doux Cœur. I create hand-stitched tactile textiles for adults living with dementia or memory changes.

Before starting Doux Cœur, I spent many years working as a complementary therapist and mindfulness teacher. Mindfulness still influences the way I work. I’m interested in how something tactile can give the hands and attention somewhere to go — a line to follow, a texture to feel, or simply something to hold.

I like natural fabrics, quiet colours and simple forms. I’m also influenced by Japanese simplicity and balance.

Doux Cœur is French. Doux can mean soft or gentle, and cœur means heart. I chose the name because it brings together two things that matter to me: how something feels in the hands, and the care and respect behind making it. French is my first language, so the name also feels personal.
