Further support

Caring for someone with dementia can be difficult. There may be times when practical advice, specialist support or someone to talk to is needed.
This page brings together a small number of trusted organisations that may be helpful alongside day-to-day care. Details can change, so please check directly with each organisation if you need the most up-to-date information.

Practical support
If you are caring for someone regularly, it may be worth asking for a needs assessment for the person you support, and a carer’s assessment for yourself.
A needs assessment looks at what support may be needed with daily life, care at home, equipment, or other services. A carer’s assessment looks at how caring affects you and what support may help.
Your local council can advise on both. NHS guidance also explains how to ask for support at home if care is becoming harder to manage.
The links below explain the process in England. Support and assessment arrangements differ elsewhere in the UK.
